The Cornish Rex is sophisticated and refined but they also have an incredible love for affection and an intelligent cat’s sense of humour. They enjoy being handled, this makes it easy to take them to the vet or train them for therapy work.
Cornish Rexes are generally healthy but diseases such as Congenital Hypotrichosis (otherwise known as hereditary baldness), Umbilical Hernia and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy have been seen in the breed.
Grooming the Cornish Rex is just as simple as brushing your hand over their coat. However, some Cornish Rex cats do have a woollier or longer coat and may need some help from a soft bristle brush or fine-tooth comb to keep their coat looking spick and span. It is vital that you groom gently as the hairs are prone to breakage. One of the best things about a Cornish Rex coat is that the hairs are so fine that they aren’t very noticeable on furniture or clothing. The coat comes in an abundance of colours and patterns. Solid colours are black, white, blue, red, chocolate, cream and lavender. They also come in many tabby colours and patterns such as tortoiseshell, calico, bi-colour and pointed patterns, to name a few. The eyes may be gold, green or hazel depending on the coat colour.
